MRS3000-G2 Media Certifier
In early 2007, the MRS3000-G2 was introduced, providing enhanced
PMR defect detection channels and various hardware and software
upgrade options.
The MRS3000-G2 is a second generation PMR-test capable, multi-function
150 MHz rigid media certifier. The G2 targets media manufacturersą
critical need for higher inspection sensitivity and productivity
as the data storage industry continues to move to ever higher media
densities. It revolutionizes media defect inspection at production-level
speeds with advanced signal processing and innovative electronics
and software that improve the correlation between certification
results and actual hard drive performance.
The MRS3000-G2 uses the proven MRS3000 design with the addition
of new test channel developed for high linear density test, which
provides increased defect sensitivity while maintaining high throughput.
The MRS3000-G2 incorporated years of input from many disk manufacturers
from around the world. It provides customers with higher test frequencies
and improved mechanics for faster carriage motion and accurate and
repeatable head-loading. The result is a superior production test
platform that is extremely well suited for high volume LMR and PMR
media manufacturing environments.
MRS3000-G2 Features:
Software
MRS3000-G2 users can select all system features and modes of operation
through a windows-type interface. The Windows 2000 operating system
provides a platform for parallel processing that allows fast seamless
system performance. The unique software architecture offers a high
level of flexibility to meet current and future requirements.
Mechanics
The MRS3000-G2 has four independent carriages and independently
operated top and bottom head load control. All four carriages can
be programmed to simultaneously overlap as needed to optimize any
testing requirements. The head load speeds and load radii are all
programmable, providing a complete range of test options. The independent
top and bottom head loading capability accommodates single surface
testing. In addition, each top and bottom head loader has its own
independent adjustments.
Glide Testing
The MRS3000-G2 includes both PZT and AE test modes and two 4 MHz
detection channels for each surface. This allows the test engineer
to gather and analyze more data and to setup process-specific glide
tests. Each of the four independent channels has self-calibration
software enabling fast and accurate automatic adjustments.
Certification Testing
The MRS3000-G2 uses the spiral method of certification for production.
Step-and-repeat is available for engineering mode. Special attention
has been given to operator convenience, which reduces down time
and setup errors. Removable head blocks make changing heads a fast
procedure. The head load speed is set with an easy to reach pneumatic
adjustment.
Setup and calibration
To assure system-to-system repeatability, each MRS3000-G2 has software
controlled self-calibration circuits that, through statistical distribution,
adjust the measurement accuracy within specified limits. There is
no operator judgment factor involved.
